Steps on Organizing a Music Concert

How to produce a successful music concert?

A lot of people depend on talent to develop a great music concert.  I think that is a great start.  However, other skills come into play when organizing a concert performance.  To produce a product means that you must supply a tangible idea to the consumer.  The live performance industry creates a since of importance to the artist.  Most beginning artist don’t generate a lot of funds as far as salary goes.  However, many go into the business unaware of sacrifices needed for this journey.  So booking an artist for a live performance is a big part of their salary (Typical pay).

Production directors will search for the artist that audiences would enjoy in that demographic area.  In order to successful book an artist, it is important to first to figure out what type of music concert you want to produce and start looking for an appropriate venue.  If you don’t already have an artist in mind, look up different artist that will be in town and schedule a concert around their tour.  It’s more affordable to book an artist that is already in town rather someone that’s coming specifically for that event.

You would then get in contact with that artist or its manager and discuss their budget.  If their request doesn’t exceed your budget, follow up with them by giving details about the venue.  By this time, you should already have tickets prices, venue budget, and many more back and forth details.

Connecting and networking with different artists will develop the recourses needed to come up with a great performance.  Every artist wants an opportunity to get experience and perform on stage so networking is a plus.  The key of success in planning a music concert is connecting with great talent.

What is Regional Theatre?

Regional Theatre is how everything starts. There are many that do not know what regional theatre is all about.  These are theatres that are known for producing  professional plays outside New York City Broadway.  Usually, supported as a non-profit organization, regional theatre is where young artists get exposure and education in the arts platform.

The problem with Regional Theatre is that the number of nonprofit theater companies in the US has doubled, which means that funding is becoming a scarcity for the owners of these theater companies (Novick,2011).  So why bother with the whole idea of owning a theater company?  The success of regional theatre is left up to the bigger companies while the beginning companies search for funding to express their passion for the arts.

Since the 2008 recession, some American citizens experienced challenges in finding employment. Now the focus is solely on artists getting paid for their work, rather than experience and passion for the arts. In light of the recession the thought of starting your own theatre company might be problematic in the 21st century unless you have proven success through your market audience. The audience is looking for something new.  From my own experience, some artists start theater companies because of the fear of not finding other avenues to showcase their plays or art performances.

What’s the solution in providing exposure for new artists?  If artists or future entrepreneurs desire to start their own company, by all means, go for it.  However, I suggest working with big theater and art companies as they will provide you with the necessary experience to understand the proper

Poetry in Mainstream

Why is spoken word not in main productions entertainment?
Answer:  Because the hip-hop and rap has taken over

One day, I decided to google “the biggest spoken word event” and the results amazed me.  It didn’t surprise me to see that mainly urban communities recognized this art.  Russell Simmons created the idea with DefPoetry Jam and it became a success, where many popular artist had the opportunity to perform on the stage. Spoken word on the big stage was uncommon at the time. Why does it seem so difficult to get the elements of the art such as poetry on big film?  It seems as if America is completely not interested in hearing poetry in movies.   You see dance movies all the time.  Classical music is imported into romantic or horror films, yet poetry is left in the dark. Although the art of spoken word is not supported on the big screen, mainly because citizens are more focused on hip-hop, the urban community has embraced it. As a result of it spoken word lounges are widely supported throughout the urban communities, utilizing different venues such as coffee houses and small clubs since that’s the market of the urban audience.

I believe it has a lot to do with the similarity and popularity of hip hop.   It’s almost like Cotemporary America doesn’t appreciate the foundation of the arts.  Once poetry gets to a certain level of popularity, it’s turned into hip-hop.  Poetry or spoken word has been left out of mainstream entertainment while women imagery as sex items has continually increased. I don’t think the art of poetry is really advertised on the big screen because it’s hidden in hip-hop.

Poetry is seen as a way to sequence words to relay a specific message to the audience.  A lot of these spoken word pieces are words of wisdom, hope and relevant knowledge that the audience love.  For example:  P4CM is growing to be the largest spoken word event in the Christian arena. So why wouldn’t the entertainment industry adapt this form of art. It appears that American citizens are only interested in drama television or reality shows and popular music.  But I wonder what will happen to entertainment if spoken word was to reach the box office.  How would America relate to the arts on that level of entertainment? I might be the one with that genius idea.

Overall, I believe that this type of art isn’t advertised in the big screen because hip-hop is the primary focus of the entertainment industry.
