Product Development from a Christian Perspective

Growing up with the Christian arena, I realized how judgmental and crucial Christians could be.  It seems as if Christian producers have all the answers when it comes to Christian music and what is best for the artist.

Mali Music is a good example of how Christians can be judgmental.  He is a contemporary gospel artist that has been undercover as an independent artist for at least 5 years.  His fan base has increased by the year.  He has also successfully produced two independent albums and toured around the United States.  In 2011, Mali Music had the opportunity to perform at the BET Awards, Music Matters.

Akon, who is a well-known Hip-hop/R&B artist seen him at the awards and offered a deal.  Mali Music later decided to sign with Akons’ label, Konvict.  His decision created a huge controversy in the Christian industry.   A lot of Christian was unhappy and disagreed with his decision to sign with Akon.  Christian artists are usually signed with Christian labels.  R&B artists are usually signed with R&B labels.  They both took a risk in agreeing to do business with each other.

From Akon and Mali Music, they have opposite perspective of lifestyles.  Because of the popularity that Mali Music has experienced in the previous years, I pretty sure he had received more than one offer from the Christian arena. So, why do you think he chose to sign with a seconder label?

From a business standpoint, I believe Mali Music made a good decision.  Akon has a lot of experience in the industry and he has the ability to create opportunitythat Mali Music didn’t have before.  I believe, as long a business is properly operated, it shouldn’t matter is their lifestyles and characters are different.

However since Mali Music been sign with Konvcit, there hasn’t been any results of new music or product development under the new label.  Mali Music advertised in 2012 that an new album will be release in January 2013 but only release a single.

Don’t get me wrong; I am huge fan of Mali Music and the decision to sign with Akon was unique.  However, I feel as if Mali Music needs to prove to his fans that he made a good decision.
